Online Diamond Appraisal
Accurately assessing a diamond’s value can be complicated and depends on several factors — which is why you should always trust a professional with your jewelry appraisals. At Trade In My Diamond, we offer an online diamond appraisal service for properly evaluating your diamond’s value, all with free and quick shipping — we even offer free return shipping!
Starting with an online diamond appraisal may help prevent your diamond from being undervalued or overvalued. It’s free, fast, and easy to find out how much you may be able to sell your diamond for by using an online appraisal test. Diamond appraisals can also help you find the right kind of replacement jewel stone for a ring, necklace, bracelet, or earring that is missing a diamond.
What’s My Diamond Worth? Learn What Makes a Diamond Valuable
Primarily responsible for determining a diamond’s worth is its weight (carat), color, cut, and clarity.
Carat
Most people think a diamond’s carat refers to its size, but it actually refers to its weight. For example, a diamond sized at one carat weighs .2 grams; a five-carat diamond would weigh a full one gram.
Color
We’ll grade the color of your diamond on a scale from D to Z. A “D” grade indicates an utterly colorless diamond, while a “Z” grade indicates a diamond with a yellow tint.
Cut
The cut of a diamond does not refer to its shape but how it has been cut regarding angles and proportion. Common diamond cuts include Old Single, Point, and Table Cut. Sometimes, the shape (but not the cut) of a diamond can increase its value according to diamond shape trends at the time of appraisal.
Clarity
When you take a diamond to a jeweler or pawn shop, the appraiser will likely use a magnifier to detect internal flaws or blemishes. Diamonds that are deemed “flawless” have no noticeable scratches, inclusions, or blemishes. Accordingly, flawless diamonds are not only extremely valuable but also extremely rare.
Should You Get a Jeweler or Pawn Shop Appraisal?
Experienced diamond appraisers offer the benefit of using magnification lenses to accurately grade a diamond’s clarity. Depending on what the pawn shop or jewelry appraiser discovers while closely examining your diamond, they will give it one of the following grades:
- Very very small inclusions (VVS1 or VVS2)
- Very small inclusions (VS1 or VS2)
- Small inclusions (SI1 or SI2)
- Inclusions 1, 2, or 3 (I1, I2, I3)
An “internally flawless” (IF) grade exists but is rarely assigned to most mainstream diamonds.
